IFBB Pro League Vice President Tyler Manion has revealed new weight and height parameters for the Men’s Physique division. Taking to Instagram on September 18, 2023, Manion made the announcement and verified the specific height and weight changes to the category.

“The new Men’s Physique weight caps will be exactly 10 pounds below the current Classic Physique Pro weight cap,” explained Tyler Manion.

In June, Manion shocked the bodybuilding world after unveiling a new height and weight cap restriction for the Men’s Physique division. The IFBB made it clear the new rules would take effect at the very first competition following the 2023 Mr. Olympia, but they had yet to provide exact details pertaining to weights and heights.

Manion, alongside the IFBB, justified the new concept, emphasizing that it was put in place to prevent Men’s Physique athletes from rivaling the size of Classic Physique competitors. However, the decision to downsize Men’s Physique bodybuilders left some wondering if athletes would ignore leg training in pursuit of upper body dominance.

Tyler Manion and IFBB Pro League Reveal Specific Heights and Weights for Competitors in Men’s Physique

Manion shared all Men’s Physique Pros would have their heights and weights measured at every contest post-2023 Mr. Olympia.

“Tyler Manion here, NPC and IFBB Pro League Vice President. Today, we are going to reveal the new Men’s Physique heights and weights. So, these will come into effect after the Olympia this year. So the first weekend after the Olympia, all Men’s Physique Pros will be getting heighted and weighted at every single show going forward.”

“So for example: You are over 5″8′ and up to and including 5″9′ your weight cap will now be 194 pounds. You will be able to find these new weight caps on IFBBPro.com under the rules section under the Men’s Physique rules. Another slight rule change going forward, will be the board shorts,” shared Tyler Manion.

Manion has been open and transparent about what judges are looking for when they assess talent in the Men’s Physique class. When looking at where the division is headed, Manion underlined that Emmanuel Hunter, Corey Morris, Ryan Terry, Benquil Marigny, and Sidy Pouye all embodied the ideal look of a Men’s Physique competitor.

Scrutinizing the new rules, RxMuscle’s Dave Palumbo worries athletes will forego leg training to maintain mass in areas more harshly judged on a Men’s Physique stage, such as arms, chest, and back.

However, athlete rep Bob Cicherillo couldn’t disagree more. In response to Palumbo, Cicherillo provided evidence that legs are included in the Men’s Physique judging criteria, adding that without a proportionate lower body, physiques lack balance and symmetry.

As of late, the IFBB Pro League and Manion also announced new weight changes for the Classic Physique division. Fans look forward to seeing how the new rules affect the landscape following the 2023 Mr. Olympia competition, taking place November 2-5 in Orlando, Florida.
