Consuming protein is one of the most important aspects involved in building muscle. In a TikTok video that’s gone viral, gym bros are consuming wet dog food with the hopes of increasing their overall protein intake.

TikTok user Henry Clarisey recently turned heads online by trying out dog food as a protein option. While dog food and cat food are high in protein, health officials have indicated that these meal options are intended for pets, not humans. Henry’s odd dietary choice came about after he read the nutrition information for Pedigree dog food on MyFitnessPal, which listed its protein contents at a staggering 666 grams.

For as long as fitness and bodybuilding have been around, athletes have adopted a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude when it comes to gym gains. In another video, which accrued 3.3 million views, Clarisey tested a popular cat food as well.

The world of TikTok recently saw bodybuilders pay over $13,000 for breast milk. While most people believe breast milk should only be consumed by babies/toddlers, British mom of two, Mila De’brito, defied the norm and walked away with some extra money. Suffice it to say, athletes and bodybuilders will go to great lengths for nutrition and especially protein.

As a result of his viral dog food-eating video, Henry Clarisey urged others to hop off the trend as it was only intended to be a joke.

“This is getting a little out of hand. So, Buzz Feed made a full-on article about me eating dog food for protein. It didn’t stop there, Daily Mail also came out with a full article about me eating dog food. But Buzz Feed then reached out to the dog food company that I ate – Pedigree or whatever, and said, ‘our foods are not intended for humans, only for dogs and cats,’ which we obviously knew.”

“Then I reached out to MyFitnessPal and a salesperson at MyFitnessPal said that they tracked a lot of people who were eating dog food, like after I had posted that TikTok. But if there’s actually people out there like tracking and eating real dog food, don’t do that. Like please don’t actually do it. It was kind of just for fun as a joke and now people are actually eating dog food. Don’t do that. I’m telling you now as the person that ate it, don’t do it,” explained Henry Clarisey.

In addition to Henry’s meal plan, other unconventional diets have taken over the fitness space. Brian Johnson, well known as Liver King, utilizes a carnivorous diet and regularly consumes raw meat and animal organs. Others have jumped on this dietary trend as well, like Weam Brieche, who took the internet by storm after sharing his high-protein breakfast of six uncooked eggs and a raw beef brain.
