The five-time Fittest Woman on Earth®, Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, is ready to shed some bobsled weight ahead of the 2022 CrossFit games. Recently, Toomey revealed she will lose weight by counting her macros and focusing on endurance training.

The Games’ first workout release is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022. With that date rapidly approaching, Tia-Clair Toomey is making the requisite adjustments to her body in preparation. During her time training for bobsled, the CrossFit star admits that strength and conditioning were the primary focus.

Extra weight is incredibly useful in bobsled events because the heavier you are, the lighter the bobsled is to push. Toomey gained 20lbs in bobsled weight last year. While endurance and cardio routines took the backseat during her prep, that has now changed for Toomey as she prepares to win her sixth title at the 2022 CrossFit games.

Tia-Clair Toomey helped her home country of Australia qualify for a bobsled spot at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, but she wasn’t chosen as a participant. Despite this time usually being her offseason, Toomey packed on upwards of 20-pounds to make pushing bobsleds easier. However, the Australian native is keen on shedding the added weight with the 2022 Games around the corner.

The five-time Games winner shared how she plans to lose the bobsled weight on a video she posted to her YouTube channel.

“Hey everyone, so I wanted to talk to you about how I’m going to be losing my 10 kilos of bobsled weight. I know a lot of comments were rolling in on my previous videos, so basically, the whole intent of putting on the weight was to help with my bobsled. You know, the heavier I was in my bodyweight the lighter the sled I was pushing and that was only going to help. My pilot and I have a really nice push which allows us to go down the track faster. So, with all that said, basically, I will be counting my macros. I’ve had to do this in the past for my weightlifting when I was cutting weight.”

“Tracking my macros, and having that flexibility of being able to eat nice clean and healthy food… and then comparing it and making sure I was adjusting it to the amount of exercise and training I was doing.” Toomey said.

Toomey is implementing diets and workouts that she has utilized before during her time weightlifting and cutting weight. With emphasis on counting her macros, Toomey also made it apparent that her CrossFit training schedule requires more time in the gym compared to her time in bobsled. Overall, the five-time Games winning champion believes a combination of endurance training and diet will be integral to her success at the upcoming season of CrossFit.

“When it came to bobsled, I was really just focusing on strength in the gym. A lot of power movements, power cleans, box squats, I do a lot of plyo and explosive work. I never did a metcon, endurance, or any kind of training like that. So the hours I spent in the gym were way less than I do for a CrossFit season.”

“So definitely as I’m increasing my training throughout the season, that will definitely be cutting in and I’ll lose excess body weight through that but mainly it will be through my nutrition. I’ve got a bit of confession to make, throughout the bobsled season I definitely didn’t eat and clean as I typically would, that was due to convenience.” Toomey shared.

Toomey has counted macros before. The CrossFit athlete mentioned that she used similar strategies during her time weightlifting. As a multi-sport strength athlete, Toomey counted her macros when she represented Australia at the Olympic Games. Toomey participated in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in the 58-kilogram weight class.

As it stands, Toomey is back training in Nashville, TN, where she intends to drop the bobsled weight. The credentialed athlete admits that her diet was less than ideal while she traveled the world. With an emphasis on convenience instead of healthy choices, Toomey is ready to transform her body. Eying her sixth title at the 2022 CrossFit Games, Toomey is dropping weight to give herself the best chance at success.
