The Hybrid Showdown 4 Powerlifting Meet Full Recap And Results

The competition featured some of the best powerlifters who posted killer performances and World Records.

The Hybrid Showdown became one of the best powerlifting competitions, mainly because of their very strong rosters. This year’s edition, The Hybrid Showdown 4, held on January 15-16, 2022 At HYBRID Performance Method Gym Miami, FL, is no exception and was like the Met Gala for powerlifting. The lineup consisted of some very big names like John Haack, Jamal Browner, Kiersten Scurlock, Hunter Henderson, and more.

Hybrid Showdown Results

The results were not judged by the total weight lifted, but by the highest DOTS score. DOTS score is using complex calculations to compare lifts from athletes competing in different weight categories.

Male Division

John Haack

  • DOTS: 630.87
  • Total: 990 kg (2182.6 lbs) (100 kg Category All-Time World Record Total/Bench)
  • Prize: $20,000

Blake Lehew

  • DOTS: 617.277
  • Total: 910 kg (2006.2 lbs) (82.5 kg Category All-Time World Record Total/Deadlift)
  • Prize: $7,500

Jamal Browner

  • DOTS: 586.344
  • Total: 990 kg (2182.6 lbs)
  • Prize: $2,500

Female Division

Samantha Rice

  • DOTS: 616.778
  • Total: 681 kg (1501.4 lbs) (90 kg Category All Time World Record Total/Deadlift)
  • Prize: $20,000

Hunter Henderson

  • DOTS: 605.065
  • Total: 650 kg (1433 lbs) (82.5 kg Category All-Time World record in Squat)
  • Prize: $7,500

Kiersten Scurlock

  • DOTS: 572.083
  • Total: 677.5 kg (1493.6 lbs) Total tied (+90 kg Category All-Time World record in Total/Squat)
  • Prize: $2,500

Male Squat Recap

We were able to see some very heavy squats at this competition, as Jamal Browner lifted the most weight with a 355 kg (782.6 lbs) squat. Griffin Uhl had a very close battle with John Haack. Griffin squatted 342.7 (755.5 lbs), and John squatted 342.5 kg (755.1 lbs).

Female Squat Recap

Two All Time World Records were set in the female division. The first World Record was broken by Hunter Henderson in the 82.5 kg category with a 250 kg (551 lbs) squat. The second world record was claimed by Kiersten Scurlock who competed in the +90 kg category and squatted 265 kg (584 lbs).

Male Bench Press Recap

After missing weight, and deciding to compete in the 100 kg category, John Haack absolutely dominated the bench press event. Haack also claimed the All Time World Record with a 267.5 kg (589.7 lbs) bench press. The second-heaviest lift belonged to Brad Crawford, who bench pressed 255 kg (562.7 lbs). And the third-heaviest lift came from Blake Lehew, who lifted 227.5 kg (501.6 lbs).

Female Bench Press Recap

Samantha Rice managed to lift 157.5 kg (347.2 lbs), which turned out to be the heaviest bench press in the female division. Hunter Henderson bench pressed 150 kg (330.7 lbs).

Male Deadlift Recap

As expected, Jamal Browner dominated the deadlift event, with a 417.5 (420.5 lbs) lift. Jamal attempted 442.5 kg (975.5 lbs) two times, but both lifts were unsuccessful. Brad Crawford followed up with a massive 412.5 kg (909.5 lbs) deadlift, while John Haack and Marcus Leoni shared the third place with 390 kg (859.9 lbs) deadlifts.

It is worth noting that Blake Lehew broke the deadlift All Time World Record in the 82.5 kg category, he deadlifted 382.5 kg (843.4 lbs).

Female Deadlift Recap

Samantha Rice once again dominated the deadlift event, and broke the All Time World Record in the 90 kg category. She deadlifted 273 kg (601.7 lbs), using the sumo stance. The second-heaviest lift belonged to Kiersten Scurlock, with a 257 kg (566.5 lbs) deadlift. To round up the top 3, Hunter Henderson lifted 250 kg (551 lbs).

Besides the impressive total performances from Blake Lehew, Samantha Rice, and Hunter Henderson, The Hybrid Showdown 4 was based more around individual event performances like John Haack’s massive bench press, and Kiersten Scurlock’s squat. However, considering this was the first major competition in the year, means that in the near future, we can expect even better results from these athletes.
