Serena Abweh is relatively new to the sport, as her Open Powerlifting record shows that she has competed in only seven powerlifting competitions. Serena is only 21-years-old, and competes in the 47 kg category. She is a talented powerlifter who is renowned for her deadlift abilities. Serena once again pushed her limit and posted a new deadlift PR video on Instagram.

In the video, Serena showcased her new deadlift PR of 350 lbs (158.8 kg) which she achieved in training. To aid her in the lift, Serena used only a lifting belt, while her lifting technique was using a sumo stance. This is an impressive feat for her age and the sport of powerlifting.

At the time of the lift, Serena weighed in at 103 lbs (46.7 kg). This would mean she deadlifted just shy of 3.5x her bodyweight. In addition, this deadlift is just over 6 kg (13.2 lbs) heavier than her official competition PR of 152.5 kg (336.2 lbs), which she has done at the 2021 USPA New Mexico State Championships on October 17th, 2021.

Serena Abweh’s Greatest Achievements

Serena’s greatest powerlifting success came in the 2021 USPA New Mexico State Championships, where she managed to set personal records in every event. Her lifts were as follows:

  • Squat: 100 kg (220.5 lbs)
  • Bench Press: 62.5 kg (137.8 lbs)
  • Deadlift: 152.5 kg (336.2 lbs)
  • Total: 310 kg (683.4 lbs)

Furthermore, one of Serena’s greatest achievements is overcoming an eating disorder. She struggled with body image difficulties as a child, eventually developing severe anorexia. However, she overcame this adversity and went on to become a championship-winning powerlifter with a promising future in the sport. In addition, Serena’s transformation got some media attention, which got her in the position to help many others battling with similar issues.

Serena Abweh is quickly establishing herself as one of the greatest athletes in her division, as seen by this deadlift PR. Many people were surprised by her deadlift improvement because she doesn’t post many lifts. So based on this, she could do very well in her next competition, given we don’t know where her bench press and squat stand right now.
