Just a few weeks ago Pavlo Nakonechnyy revealed that he wouldn’t be able to compete at the 2023 Europe’s Strongest Man. However, his plans were still to continue training in the hopes of making an appearance at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man. Well, with the WSM set to take place on April 19-23, in Myrtle Beach, SC, Pavlo has now withdrawn from it as well. It seems that he needed more time to fully recover and that this is what is best for him in the long run.

Pavlo Nakonechnyy originally suffered his knee injury at the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic, but the extent of the injury was never disclosed. Even a small injury can become a major problem in Strongman, since the athletes strain their bodies each day by lifting enormous weights. Many athletes were forced to retire early due to mishaps like this, but Pavlo is ensuring that he has a long and healthy career.

This was supposed to be Pavlo Nakonechnyy’s first appearance at the World’s Strongest Man competition. Aside from that, he also hoped to provide an impressive debut, given his impressive performance over the past few years. Overall, he took part in 7 International competitions, coming out victorious in one of them and scoring high placing in the rest.

Pavlo Nakonechnyy’s Replacement

Coming in to replace Pavlo Nakonechnyy at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man is Thomas Evans from the USA. Aged 28-years-old, Evans is relatively new to Strongman, having made his International debut just last year. His breakthrough performance was most definitely in the 2022 Shaw Classic Open division, having won it and automatically qualified for the more prestigious Pro Division of the 2023 Shaw Classic. In addition, Evans also came out victorious in the 2022 Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championships just a few months before.

So, many organizers noticed Thomas Evans’ performances. Most notably, he appeared at the recent 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic, finishing in fifth after some solid results in every event.

Thomas Evans was first listed as a reserve for the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition. So, while it is unfortunate that Pavlo Nakonechnyy will not be able to take part, Evans now has a chance to further prove his worth in the professional scene.
