Over the 40-plus year long career, he has made successful forays into these fields. While he is best recognized for playing the character Titan in the television series American Gladiator, O’Hearn has garnered widespread attention in recent years for defying age. At 53 years old, Mike O’Hearn carries a muscular and near perfect physique all year round. He has won the Mr. ‘Natural’ Universe title four times in addition to winning the FItness Model of The Year award a whopping seven times.

Over the years, many people have questioned O’Hearn’s natty status but he has never failed a drug test during his bodybuilding and powerlifting career. The 53-year-old attributes his eternal youth to hard work and hard work alone.

Recently, he teamed up with 7-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son Joseph Baena for a shoulder training session. Baena has inherited the passion for bodybuilding from his father and certainly has the genetics as well. He trains at the Gold’s gym in Venice Beach, California and initially rose to fame for recreating his father’s iconic bodybuilding poses for his social media accounts.

Mike O’Hearn and Joseph Baena went through the shoulder training session at the Gold’s gym and the video of this session was posted on O’Hearn’s personal YouTube channel. So without further delay, let’s take a closer look at the detailed account of this training session.

Mike O’Hearn and Joseph Baena crush an intense shoulder training session

Baena is a part of the latest season of the dance reality show ‘Dancing with the stars’. He recently revealed that he lost nearly 10lbs weight in six weeks of doing the show. He also has a real estate business. At the time of recording this video, Baena was taking dance lessons for the dance reality show for almost a week. As a result, staying injury free had become one of the most important aspects of his gym training.

“Now he has to train, which you guys miss, in a fatigued state. If you always train like that, he might be fatigued going into this but he didn’t train like that all the time and now we have to put him in that position,” Mike O’Hearn added.

The duo then jumped right into the workout and went through each and every exercise with perfect technique.

Seated Dumbbell Overhead Press

Joseph Baena and Mike O’Hearn started the workout with the seated dumbbell overhead press. After pushing through a few solid sets of this exercise, O’Hearn and Baena took the next exercise.

Machine Overhead Press

The duo performed the machine overhead press next. O’Hearn explained that the hand position on the machine they used is wide at the beginning of the exercise and they come closer as you lift the weight. Additionally, the handles are slightly in front of you so it helps emphasize the anterior deltoid muscles. After performing a few sets of this exercise, O’Hearn and Baena moved on to the next exercise.

Machine Lateral Raises

This exercise trains the lateral deltoid muscles and Mike O’Hearn took to this after wrapping up the machine overhead press. Along with Baena, he pushed through a few solid sets of this movement and took to another variation of this exercise. After cranking out some solid sets of this exercise, they jumped into the next exercise.

Lying Cable Inverted Grip Upright Rows

O’Hearn and Baena took to this exercise for adding more stimulus to the deltoid muscles and performed a few sets before jumping into the final exercises of the day.

Lying Cable Front Raises and Lateral Raises

Mike O’Hearn guided Joseph Baena through lying cable lateral raises next. After a few sets of this exercise, the duo wrapped up the training session with some solid sets of lying cable front raises.

Overall, the workout included:

  • Seated Dumbbell Overhead Press
  • Seated Machine Overhead Press
  • Machine Lateral Raises (2 variations)
  • Lying Cable Inverted Grip Upright Rows
  • Lying Cable Front Raises and Lying Cable Lateral Raises

Mike O’Hearn discusses the impact of dance lessons on Joseph Baena’s physique

Mike O’Hearn opined that although Baena has been a lifelong fitness enthusiast, doing a new activity like dancing engages muscles in a totally different way. He closely observed Joseph Baena’s physique as he did the machine overhead press and opined that Baena’s body looks very different.

“I’m going to assume this is after one week of dancing. Planted, solid, positioned… All the way through doing the shoulder press. I’ve never seen you look solid from the ground to the head ever than this moment right now. I’ve never seen it. I can see you’re connected,” Mike O’Hearn said.

Baena responded:

“You use muscles you have never used before. It’s a lot of balance, explosive energy and a lot of core (strength), you know. My calves and hamstrings have never been so sore in my life… It’s just totally different,” Joseph Baena stated.

The 53-year-old further opined that dancing has helped Baena connect to the ground and improved the overall form in his exercises.

Mike O’Hearn is a huge source of workout motivation as well as bodybuilding knowledge. Irrespective of the controversy surrounding his ‘natty or not’ status, one has to admit that the man works hard and does everything the right way.
