Mark Wahlberg‘s commitment to the gym is one of his highest priorities at 51 years old. In a recent Instagram post, Wahlberg held dumbbells and taxed his lower body with a set of intense Bulgarian split squats.

In the world of entertainment, Mark Wahlberg is a proven force. His claim to fame began in the early 1990s in collaboration with the hip-hop group, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. By the 2000s, Wahlberg carved out a successful acting career. With appearances in high-budget films like The Perfect Storm, The Italian Job, and Planet of the Apes, Wahlberg’s notoriety exploded.

Wahlberg’s charismatic personality and relatability off-screen made him a fan-favorite actor. Amassing several acting, producing, and directing projects, Wahlberg has tested the limits of his body for movie roles. He transformed his physique for a 2022 drama in which he portrayed a boxer who later became a catholic priest. Wahlberg gained over 30 pounds in a single month for the endeavor by utilizing a near-impossible 11,000-calorie daily diet.

Wahlberg, recognized for his talent and hard work in the entertainment industry, has established himself as a true professional. He has gone from being a male model for underwear to gaining massive amounts of muscle for his exceptional performances in the films Pain & Gain and The Fighter (2008).

Considering Wahlberg’s ability to transform his body and lose weight, fans are intrigued by his training habits. He often shares brief workout segments on Instagram and consistently trains throughout the year. In his latest overnight workout, Wahlberg demonstrated how he builds his lower body.

Bulgarian split squats are a powerful exercise used to enhance lower body strength. The movement is useful for developing a strong core, stability, and balance. It primarily targets the quadriceps and glutes, but also works the hamstrings, hips, and core muscles.

Of course, a significant portion of Wahlberg’s success comes from his commitment to appearance. Unconventional exercises like the Bulgarian split squat, which may seem peculiar at first glance, are remarkably effective. When executed correctly, the Bulgarian split squat can:

  • Enhance muscle growth in the quadriceps, glutes, and abdominals
  • Increase strength in the core and cultivate muscular power in the lower body
  • Boost stability in the joints and enhance bodily coordination

What’s more, you don’t even need to use weights to benefit from the split squat (though, as you can see, it certainly helps). All you need is something to rest your foot on and a bit of patience; split squats are exactly as challenging as they look, even for a pro like Wahlberg.

This is far from the first time the world has seen Wahlberg pumping iron at 4 A.M. In addition to showing off his lean physique, he motivated others by performing two tough workouts in one day. He also engaged in a training session with his followers at the EōS gym in Temecula, California.

Probably doesn’t hurt to be able to afford a world class gym in your home, so you can exercise at will. And I doubt his “grueling schedule” is any more difficult than us peons slaving away just to make enough to eat and house ourselves.
