Rapper and hip-hop icon Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) is sharing his unconventional secrets to staying in shape at 40 years old. In a discussion with Zane Lowe, Lil Wayne said that he’s avoided fast food, gyms, and weightlifting for the last 20 years to stay in shape.

Instead of building his physique through weightlifting, Lil Wayne stays fit by avoiding unhealthy foods. He substitutes regular gym sessions with skateboarding and an active lifestyle. His ability to consistently stay in shape year-round has been a talking point amongst fans for years.

Wayne, who has released over 15 studio albums, has enjoyed a wildly successful career in the music industry. One of his most popular works, Tha Carter III, reached triple-platinum status. In 2012, he surpassed Elvis Presley in the male category on Billboard’s Hot 100 with a total of 109 songs.

In his latest interview, Wayne briefly discussed moving to Miami, Florida. He shared that his mom continually urged him to get a personal chef, and admits he’s had one since he was 19 years old.

According to Lil Wayne, it’s been so long since he’s had fast food, he can’t even recognize the smell of McDonald’s.

“When I was 19, I moved to Miami and my mom is a chef and she was very happy for the move because New Orleans is crazy. One thing she really wanted me to do was get a personal chef,” Wayne said on the Apple Music radio show on Thursday.

“So, from the age of 19 to now, I’ve always had a personal chef. I don’t know what McDonald’s smell like. I haven’t eaten any fast food in forever,” said Wayne.

Wayne said his unorthodox measures for staying lean have prompted others to ask about his workout routine.

“People always say to me, ‘What’s your workout? What do you do when you get in the gym?'” he added. “I be like, ‘Only gyms I know is Jim Jones.’

Louisiana’s Wayne isn’t the only high-profile rapper committed to staying fit. Clifford Smith Jr., well known as Method Man, continues to pull headlines for his impressive strength. At 50 years old, Smith Jr. showed off a 500-pound deadlift. He also said his natural status was ‘tested and approved’ after performing 120-pound incline dumbbell presses for reps.

Additionally, rapper Blueface (Johnathan Jamall Porter) recently shocked fans with a deadlift totaling over 300 pounds. He performed the lift in the company of popular fitness influencer Bradley Martyn. Meanwhile, Lil Uzi Vert (Symere Bysil Woods) has also received praise for his strength inside the gym.

Even though he doesn’t lift weights or go to the gym, Lil Wayne spares little expense when it comes to his nutrition and diet. On the horizon, his focus will be on his latest album release, Tha Carter VI.
