Yet again, a female TikToker has been put on blast by Joey Swoll after she criticized a fellow gym-goer’s form while he lifted weights. After the TikToker said the man was ego lifting and doing “half ass reps”, Joey Swoll has come to his defense and explained the value of the exercise.

In early Jan., TikTok star, Nicki Fitness shamed a man in the gym for practicing an unfamiliar technique. Nicki joked about the exercise with her friends on video and implied that his workout was ineffective. In response, bodybuilder Joey Swoll explained that the man was practicing a drag curl, which can be highly effective for working out the biceps. After Swoll’s video went viral, Nicki Fitness followed up her snafu with a formal apology.

Social media has become a major part of communication in today’s age. With everyone having a video recorder attached to their smartphones, awkward gym situations and strange encounters have become more common. However, the app has also gifted us with some downright hilarious moments. Just last week, a female TikToker dropped male gym-goer’s jaws after deadlifting 425lbs with relative ease.

Joey Swoll Explains Benefits of Partials

In a TikTok response video, Swoll enlightened his fanbase about partials and dropped knowledge on the TikToker who has since deleted the video and account.

“If you have to hide your phone take a video, you probably shouldn’t.” the caption reads.

“The key to this workout is to only do about one-third the range of motion of a side lateral raise and to also go heavy and high rep. A lot of great bodybuilders love this movement, it’s great for size. The late great John Meadows, one of the best to ever do it, rest in peace to him, he loved this exercise.” Joey Swoll said.

Swoll explained the benefits of partials and added that it’s great for size and movement. After mentioning that the late John Meadows was a proponent of the exercise, Swoll underlined how the workout is great for building the deltoids and overall size.

Joey clarified that the man in front of the weights was not being disrespectful. He believes the person recording was hiding from being seen, which implied guilt, however.

“I also don’t think this man is standing in front of the rack to be mean or disrespectful to you. I think it’s just easier for him to use heavyweights, re-rack it, and do drop set moving down the line, after drop set.

Also, the fact that you had to hide your phone to take this video shows me that you knew better, that you knew you were wrong in what you were doing, but you did it anyway. Be better than that. Mind your own business.” Swoll concluded.

Since the video’s inception, it’s gone viral with more than 7.9 million views and 1.4 million likes. While some commenters were aligned with Joey’s thinking, others still thought the man in question was blocking the weights from other gym goers.

“This is why I work out at home.. people like her.” one commenter wrote.

“I think it’s a good movement, but don’t just stand in front of someone else at the gym. Especially when they can’t move out from behind you.” someone else wrote.

“Yeah my gym has rules against lifting right in front of the weights.” another user stated.

With how often TikTok gym stories devolve into chaos, at least Joey Swoll responded with the best of intentions.  The value of partials was illuminated by Joey Swoll and is a great exercise for working the delts.
