Bodybuilding icon Jay Cutler left behind a storied legacy but is still a great ambassador for the sport today. In a recent YouTube video, Cutler shared his thoughts on muscle recovery.

Cutler, a four-time Mr. Olympia champion, dominated bodybuilding stages in the mid-2000s. He gained attention for his mass and his iconic rivalry with eight-time Mr. Olympia winner Ronnie Coleman. Cutler eventually broke ‘The King’s’ aura of invincibility with a triumphant victory at the 2006 Mr. Olympia. Afterward, Cutler went on to win another three Sandows over the next few years.

Besides the coveted Sandow trophy, Cutler also won the Arnold Classic three times in a row from 2002 to 2004. He’s maintained a high level of fitness after hanging up his posing trunks. Jay’s post-competition physique inspired Men’s Open standout Nick Walker to follow in his footsteps after retirement.

Jay Cutler regularly motivates his 4.7 million followers on Instagram with workout tips and clips. Earlier this month, Cutler revealed some of his favorite exercises he used to get a jacked back, as well as traps, and calves. He also detailed the best ways to practice cardio and encouraged others to use higher rep ranges.

Ahead of the upcoming 2023 Arnold Classic, Cutler extended his support for rising sensation Andrew Jacked. He said he could dominate the show if he comes in at his best. Cutler’s confident Jacked will find Olympia glory one day with continued work. He believes two-time 212 Olympia winner Shaun Clarida will give everyone a tough challenge at the event along with Walker, who enters as the highest-ranked Olympian from last year’s show.

Jay Cutler Shares 72-Hr Rule for Muscle Recovery, Says to ‘Monitor Routines and Focus on Growth’

In a recent YouTube video, Jay Cutler shared suggestions on how to properly recover for optimal muscle growth.

“If I was going to train my biceps, I would give myself 5 to 7 days rest in between,” said Cutler. “Research shows that when you train a muscle with volume, you need 72 hours to recover that muscle group. So, I would say definitely 72 hours rest before you train it again, not say you can’t shock the body and train it several times.

If you want to do biceps three times a weak, it’s a smaller muscle group. But remember, recovery is when the muscle is growing so be choosy about how you rest and how you monitor your workout routines and always focus on the growth.”

A few days ago, Cutler discussed his physique ambitions for the year. He continues to train regularly at 49 years old as he continues his ‘fit for 50’ challenge. He also gave his take on steroid use recently and its evolution over time.

It would be so cool if you work out don’t do steroids. Work hard and do it right.
