2018 World’s Strongest Man, Hafthor Björnsson, is widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes in all of the strength sports, despite moving on from professional competitions a few years back. Even after his retirement, Hafthor has continued to improve and achieve new goals. However, Bjornsson is now coming back with serious intentions, as just over three weeks are left until his return to powerlifting on December 3rd. So, in a recent video posted on his Instagram, Bjornsson crushed a 793.6-pound (360-kg) deadlift for two reps.

Hafthor Bjornsson enjoyed a highly successful run during his tenure in strongman competitions. He became the first and only person to have won the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe’s Strongest Man, and the World’s Strongest Man competitions all in the same year.

In March, Bjornsson made the switch to boxing and took on fellow strongman Eddie Hall in a boxing fight billed as “The Heaviest Boxing Match in History.” He worked hard for the bout and ended up losing massive amounts of weight to improve his conditioning in the ring. The 33-year-old Iceland native dominated Hall to a unanimous decision victory. Although he was trying to get matched up with Tyson Fury, nothing concrete developed.

During his days of competition, Hafthor set many new world records with his insane strength. The last time we saw him compete as a Strongman, he demolished Hall’s Deadlift World Record and set the All-Time Deadlift World Record of 1,104.5 pounds (501 kilograms). In October, he pulled off a massive 661.3-lb (300-kg) squat for two reps even though he no longer competes.

In a recent Instagram post, Hafthor Bjornsson shared a clip of himself performing a huge 793.6-lb (360-kg) deadlift for two reps before his anticipated return to powerlifting on Dec. 3.

“Deadlift 360kg x 2 ! Extremely happy with my progress since coming back to strength training. “

Hafthor announced his retirement from boxing due to a lack of passion last month. He explained that he was planning to return to Strongman and attempt some more World Records partially. He revealed that he would mark his comeback at a powerlifting competition on December 3.

Bjornsson was targeting to break his own Weight Over Bar World Record at the 2022 Rogue Invitational, which took place this past Oct. 28-30 in Austin, Texas. Despite being away for two years, he set a new World Record of 56 pounds (25.4-kg) for the 20-feet 3-inches weight over bar.

Most recently, Hafthor Bjornsson narrowly avoided a serious injury after a mishap on the squat rack. He performed two reps of 749.6 pounds (340 kilograms) on the squat and was attempting to place the bar back on the Monolift Squat Rack when he missed the rack from one side. The whole weight collapsed over his back and he barely avoided a muscle injury.

Based on the latest update, it looks like Hafthor has recovered well after the accident. He will look to enter the final stages of his preparations for the powerlifting show with just three weeks left.
