Ever wondered what the future of powerlifting will look like? Well, the 2023 IPF World Juniors and Sub-Juniors Classic Championships definitely gave us a glimpse of how much talent there is among the youngsters. With so many rising powerlifters, one of the athletes that stands out in particular is Erholove Izobodo-John. The reason why Erholove is different from the majority is because she set a 253-kilogram (557.8 pound) Deadlift U84KG IPF Junior World Record at the competition mentioned earlier.
Erholove Izobodo-John, born in 2001, is undoubtedly one of the brightest talents that Great Britain has, even as a Junior powerlifter. So, when she went to compete against her peers, Erholove left everyone in shock by setting a humongous IPF Junior World Record in the deadlift event. This meant that she was not allowed to use aiding tools, such as lifting straps, but instead could only put on a lifting belt.
Apart from deadlifting the 253 kilograms (557.8 pounds) in a raw manner, Erholove Izobodo-John also utilized a sumo stance and a mixed grip to successfully reach lockout. With everything put together, Erholove performed the rep with speed, clearly being capable of deadlifting even more weight.
However, it did not matter if Erholove Izobodo-John had the capability to lift more weight, as her 253-kilogram (557.8-pound) lift was enough to break the record. Speaking of which, the old U84KG IPF Junior World Record Deadlift was previously in possession of the legendary Amanda Lawrence, who lifted 252.5 kilograms (556.7 pounds) at the 2019 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.
Erholove Izobodo-John did not only succeed on the deadlifts, but instead put in an incredible performance overall. The British representative successfully completed eight out of her nine attempts, and also set a new EPF Junior Squat European Record. So, with such massive lifts, it is not surprising that Erholove won her 84-kilogram weight class to become the 2023 IPF Junior World Champion.

Erholove Izobodo-John remains unbeaten, having won all seven of the sanctioned powerlifting competitions in which she took part. Moreover, she is the reigning Junior IPF World, EPF European, and British National Champion. And, as if that were not enough achievements, Eholove has now added multiple World and European Records to her resume.
It is very important to point out that Erholove Izobodo-John broke the record of Amanda Lawrence, who is now one of the greatest powerlifters in history. So, going off pure logic, Erholove also has the potential to reach Amanda’s level in a few years, which will hopefully be the case. However, she still has some more Junior competitions until then, where she will attempt to further improve her World Record and perhaps set some more.
