Dorian Yates carries a passion for fitness despite moving on from professional bodybuilding many years ago. In a recent post made on Instagram, Yates showed off his jacked physique in a recent update from his trip to Brazil.
Dorian Yates boasts one of the most successful records in bodybuilding. The English mass monster was a pioneer for the sport in his home region of the United Kingdom. He was renowned for his barn door back that helped him become a six-time Mr. Olympia champion, winning each edition from 1992 to 1997. During his career, Yates faced many notable legends, including eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney, Flex Wheeler, Shawn Ray, and bodybuilding Hall of Famer Chris Cormier.
Yates developed a reputation for staying on the sidelines and only making his presence known during contests, which earned him the nickname ‘The Shadow.’ His training methods of reaching near failure in every training session also set him apart from traditional bodybuilders.
He opened up about his steroid cycles during his career last October. He highlighted Dianabol as his substance of choice. While he’s no longer on the juice, Yates revealed that he continues to micro-dose testosterone.
‘The Shadow’ recounted the intense mindset he had while discussing the film Blood & Guts, in which he shared a look into his brutal training methods. Although with his accomplishments, Dorian admitted he could have taken things a bit easier to minimize the risk of injuries.
Golden Era competitor Tom Platz expressed his admiration for Yates a few months ago. He recalled his experience mentoring Yates as a budding contender in his seminars. Having played a role in Yates’ formation, Platz felt proud of the Englishman’s achievements.
He teamed up with former Junior Mr. Universe champion and Classic Physique amateur bodybuilder Kaya Yusuf last November. He guided Yusuf through a grueling back workout before wrapping the session up with a posing routine.
Dorian Yates shows off huge physique in a recent update
In a recent Instagram post, Dorian Yates showed off his muscular physique at the age of 60. He can be seen working out on a beach in Brazil.
A few months ago, Dorian Yates talked about his journey in bodybuilding that began as a troubled teenager in jail. He credited the sport for saving him from a darker path in life.
His impact on bodybuilding can be felt to this day. Following the conclusion of the 2022 Mr. Olympia, Rich Gaspari critiqued champion Hadi Choopan by comparing his back to Yates. While the comparison may have been uncalled for, there’s no denying the gold standard Yates set for Open competitors.
Yates shared a similar albeit impressive update last month, where he looked ripped under a waterfall in Rio de Janeiro. He followed that up with positive reports of his latest health check and VO2 max test. Although he is 60 years old, Yates’ biological age was determined to be between 30 and 39 based on the test results.

It’s clear Yates has no plans of stepping away from the sport completely. While he’s not posing on stage anymore, his fitness updates will certainly motivate the next generation of bodybuilders.
