"The point was to be able to have more pain-free movement and to avoid surgery," Yates said about his stem cell treatment.

Bodybuilding legend Dorian Yates carried the sport on his back for years before retiring in 1997. During his tenure, he fought through injuries to capture a total of six Mr. Olympia titles. Enjoying retirement, Yates took to Instagram and gave fans an optimistic update on his recent stem cell therapy procedure.

Competing mostly in the 1990s, Yates proved himself as an Open juggernaut with exceptional muscularity, detail, and conditioning. His overall mass combined with one of the widest backs in bodybuilding history made him an absolute menace on stage. Aside from taking second place to Lee Haney in 1991, Yates won every single Mr. Olympia competition he entered.

It took years to achieve such a formidable physique, which he crafted with unconventional training methods. Bodybuilders typically performed a set number of reps/sets in the gym, however, Yates pushed to failure in every workout. These principles were first brought to light by Arthur Jones and Mike Mentzer.

Despite his success, Yates dealt with a number of injuries on his way to building a legacy. Yates tore his bicep six weeks before 1994 Mr. Olympia. He accepted that he would surrender a few poses but believed he could still win due to his back shots, and he was right. Adversity reared its head again as Yates also recounted winning his final Olympia title in 1997 with a 90% torn tricep.

Given the injuries, Yates, like his successor Ronnie Coleman, is utilizing stem cell therapy. In June, he gave fans an update and said the procedure helped with his shoulder pain and energy levels. Three months later, it appears Yates is seeing new benefits from the treatment.

Dorian Yates Gives Post-Stem Cell Therapy Update: ‘Main Thing Was The Hip & It’s Definitely Improved’

Yates credited the stem cell procedure for improving his hip pain discomfort and lack of mobility by 40%.

“Just done a little cardio workout. A mobility workout for my shoulders and hips. The point of this post is to update everyone on my post-stem cell treatment that I had with Bioexcellerator in Colombia. In one month, I estimated that my hip pain discomfort, and lack of mobility had improved by about 20%. Now we’re at the three-month mark, I would say that’s around 40% improvement.

The main goal, I had some in my shoulders, elbows, and knees, but the main thing for me was the hip – and it’s definitely improved. The point was to be able to have more pain-free movement and to avoid surgery,” Yates shared.

“Stem Cell update 3 months” Dorian Yates posted.

Staying youthful is a major priority for Yates who endured countless battles on stage. At 61, he’s redirected his focus to other types of physical activity, such as Pilates and yoga. He also uses an inversion machine to decompress his spine. Though, Yates is still well known for his ‘blood and guts’ high-intensity interval training strategies.

You might think that such a grueling career would take a toll on his health and longevity, but that’s not the case. Yates recently took a test that measured his VO2 Max and biological age, two indicators of fitness and aging. The results were outstanding: they approximated that his biological age was between 30-39.

Recovery is not just a part of Dorian Yates’ daily routine, but a way of life. He knows that his body needs constant attention, especially after years of intense training, which is why he’s always looking for new and innovative ways to restore vitality to his muscles, joints, and organs.
