Although it came out of nowhere, we were fortunate enough to witness an incredible feat of strength at the 2023 World Strength Games, which were a part of the Florida Fit Expo. Among many, Dimitar Savatinov turned out to be the most fascinating one, having put up one of the greatest lifts in the US. He brought incredible shape, which was evident with his first few warm-up deadlifts already. However, everyone was left in awe when Dimitar locked out a 467.5-kilogram (1,030.7-pound) deadlift and thus set a brand new American Record.

The name Dimitar Savatinov is probably familiar to those who have been following Strongman for a while. However, even the newer fans will remember who he is, as he has just established himself among the greatest deadlifters in the world.

Dimitar Savatinov competed under Strongman regulations, so he was allowed to use a deadlift suit, lifting belt, and lifting straps, but had to perform it with a conventional stance. He easily got the 467.5-kilogram (1.030.7-pound) deadlift over his knees, but it looked for a moment that he could not lock it out. That was not the case, though, as he utilized the allowed hitching motion and stood upright with the weight.

Dimitar Savatinov’s new American Record Deadlift was performed in front of Magnus Ver Magnússon, a 4x WSM who is currently the most respected Strongman referee in the world. In addition, 2023 WSM, Mitchell Hooper, and American Strongman Icon, Jerry Pritchett, were in the crowd watching Dimitar’s achievement.

Dimitar Savatinov was awarded $20,000 for his new American Record Deadlift of 467.5 kilograms (1,030.7 pounds), which will undoubtedly play a role in his further improvement. Being 43-years-old, Dimitar is eligible to compete in the Masters division. So, Rauno Heinla’s 476-kilogram (1,049.4-pound) Masters World Record does not seem too far-fetched for Dimitar.

Dimitar Savatinov has Bulgarian origins, but he has been in the USA since 2006. With time, he gained strength and ultimately became America’s Strongest Man twice, in 2014 and 2015.

Dimitar Savatinov competed in one of the most iconic Strongman periods of all time, as he had to face off against the likes of Brian Shaw, Hafthor Bjornsson, Eddie Hall, and many more. Despite that, he managed to often impress everyone, especially when it came to Overhead Press events.

Dimitar Savatinov also found his passion for strength training through powerlifting, having been invited to competition by local powerlifters in 2009. Another interesting fact is that he worked as a member of a circus crew, where he took a role in the technical crew. However, he also stepped in for the circus’ Strongman performer for six months, as the guy previously doing the act got injured.

Dimitar Savatinov’s most recent Strongman appearance came at the 2022 Masters World’s Strongest Man, where he finished in fifth place. He has obviously focused more on a single event this year, and it paid off since he set a new American Record Deadlift. So, it is currently not clear if Dimitar plans on taking part in the 2023 Masters WSM as well.
