Powerlifter Danny Grigsby (110KG) Shatters 467.5-kg (1,030.7-lb) All-Time Raw Deadlift World Record

Nothing can satisfy an avid powerlifting fan more than a true rivalry between two of the sport’s greatest athletes. Well, now that seems to be the case, as Danny Grigsby outperformed Jamal Browner to set a brand new All-Time World Record in the deadlift event.

Danny Grigsby competed in the 2023 WRPF METROFLEX BATTLE FOR THE YARD 8, held on March 25th in California. Taking the decision to experiment with weight cutting, Danny dropped down from his usual 125-kilogram weight class, to the 110-kilogram weight class. Moreover, it turned out to be an excellent decision from him, as it resulted in a 467.5-kilogram (1,030.7-pound) deadlift. Seeing how Jamal Browner held the All-Time World Record of 455 kilograms (1,003.1 pounds), it has now been broken by Danny.

Although Danny Grigsby “came short” of his expectations, he still managed to put a one of a kind performance. His deadlift is without a doubt most impressive, as he has perfected the sumo technique and the hook grip.

Danny Grigsby’s Full Performance

  • Squat: 352.5 kilograms (777 pounds) — Competition PR
  • Bench Press: 197 kilograms (434 pounds)
  • Deadlift: 467.5 kilograms (1,030.7 pounds) — U110KG All-Time World Record
  • Total: 1,017 kilograms (2,242.1 pounds)

Apart from the deadlift, Danny Grigsby also put up a very impressive performance on the squat. His heaviest attempt came out to 352.5 kilograms (777 pounds), which marks his new Competition PR, despite the fact that he dropped down a weight class.

While he did set a new competition PR in the squat event, Danny Grigsby failed to do the same in other events. This is understandable as he has competed in both the 125-kilogram and 140-kilogram weight classes in the past, which made it easier for him to move more weight.

Danny Grigsby’s greatest feat of strength during his career in U125KG and U140KG is undoubtedly his 487.5-kilogram (1,074.7-pound) deadlift from the 2022 WRPF American Pro. It currently represents the heaviest raw deadlift in the history of powerlifting, which includes every weight class. Grigsby has also devised a plan to pack on some pounds, as he aims to return to his original weight category for next competition.

“I experimented with cutting weight this time and dropping to the 242 (pound) weight class, because I’ll be 275 (pounds) again at the American Pro”

Danny Grigsby has been competing since 2013, but this has only been his 16th appearance at a sanctioned powerlifting event. However, a large portion of his appearances saw him breaking records. It remains to be seen how much more strength he can pack on before his next competition. It’s possible that he could achieve a remarkable feat, becoming the first individual to complete a raw deadlift weighing half a ton.
