Reigning Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead is leaving nothing to chance before his next title defense. In a recent Instagram post, he showed off his improved bicep peak six weeks before taking on the world’s best at 2023 Mr. Olympia, scheduled for November 2-5 in Orlando, Florida’s Orange County Convention Center.

Canadian-based bodybuilder Chris Bumstead has had an impressive career within the IFBB Pro League having held the Classic Physique Olympia title for four consecutive years since 2019. While remaining on top is a feat in and of itself, Bumstead’s true accomplishments come from how he is able to compete even in the face of adversity or while injured. In 2019 ‘Cbum’ won after having just had a hernia surgery a few months before.

Then last year, Chris Bumstead once again proved his dedication and resolve for the sport when he earned yet another victory at the 2022 Olympia while suffering with a bicep tear. ‘Cbum’ was candid with fans about the mental strain it put on him while getting ready for the competition. Regardless of the damage to his bicep, Bumstead came in looking shredded and retained his title.

Chris Bumstead left fans shocked after he shared hints about a possible retirement amidst his 2023 prep. However, he later explained in The Truth Podcast with his coach Hany Rambod that the post was meant to be a reflection of his brother-in-law Iain Valliere’s recent and sudden departure from competitive bodybuilding.

Bumstead has revealed that this year’s prep has been one of the most difficult yet due to personal issues he chose not to disclose to fans. Having struggled with mental health and anxiety in the past, ‘Cbum’ remains resilient as demonstrated in his recent physique update on his Instagram that highlights the improvements he has made to his previously injured bicep.

“Hot ass gym means a hell of a pump” Bumstead posted.

This year the reigning champ will go head-to-head with runner-up Ramon Rocha Queiroz and third-place finisher Urs Kalecinski. Urs recently talked about having what it takes to knock ‘Cbum’ off his throne and hopes to become next next Classic Physique Olympia. Urs Kalecinski’s strategy is using the new height and weight cap to his advantage, allowing him to put on “lean muscle tissue” and “quality mass”.

Ramon Dino Queiroz stands to be a formidable opponent, though Bumstead has openly dismissed Dino and stated that he believes he only has to ‘beat himself.‘ However, it should be noted that former Mr. Olympia Samir Bannout disagrees, stating that Ramon Dino’s ‘overall combination’ makes him a big threat.

Regardless of Urs Kalecinski and Ramon Dino attempts at gold, Chris Bumstead is coming into Mr. Olympia this November with a renewed mindset and determination to remain the best Classic Physique talent on the planet.
