Powerlifter Bonica Brown (+84KG) Crushes Squat & Total IPF World Records At 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships

Bonica Brown has once again further improved her IPF World Records.

One of the greatest ever, most exciting, and very inspirational, are just some of the descriptions that powerlifting fans attributed to Bonica Brown following her most recent performance. Like the majority of IPF’s greatest lifters, Bonica competed at the 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, which took place on March 25-26. In spite of the fact that Bonica had not competed for seven months, she brought in an incredible level of fitness and set new raw Squat & Total IPF World Records in the +84-kilogram weight class.

Squat

The squat has always been Bonica Brown’s most preferred lift, which is why she is so dominant. Her first squat attempt of 262.5 kilograms (578.7 pounds) was very light for her, but it is unfathomable for many others.

Moving on to the second attempt, Bonica Brown already exceeded her previous World Record of 273.5 kilograms (603 pounds), locking out a massive 274-kilograms (604 pounds) squat.

However, Bonica Brown was capable of lifting much more. So, she decided to load 280 kilograms (617.3 pounds) for her final attempt. This squat also went up much easier than anyone could have thought and it now marks the new IPF World Record.

  • 262.5 kilograms (578.7 pounds)
  • 274 kilograms (604 pounds)

Bench Press

Although Bonica Brown’s bench press opener of 140 kilograms (308.6 pounds) suggested that it could be followed by some massive lifts. However, it turned out to be her worst event of the day, as it is the only one in which she failed to set a new competition PR. Bonica’s final attempt came out to 147.5 kilograms (325.1 pounds), making it 7.5 kilograms (16.5 pounds) lighter than her greatest one.

  • 140 kilograms (308.6 pounds)
  • 145 kilograms (319.6 pounds)
  • 147.5 kilograms (325.1 pounds)

Deadlift

The final event of the day was the deadlift, where Bonica Brown started off with a 235-kilogram (518.1 pounds) pull. However, she jumped up a massive 10 kilograms (22 pounds) for her second attempt, setting the grounds for a new competition PR on the final one. Indeed, that is exactly what happened, since Bonica locked out a raw 252.5-kilogram (556.6 pounds) deadlift a few minutes later.

  • 235 kilograms (518.1 pounds)
  • 245 kilograms (540.1 pounds)
  • 252.5 kilograms (556.6 pounds) — Competition PR

Total — 680 kilograms (1,499.1 pounds) — +84KG IPF World Record

In the end, Bonica Brown came out with a 680-kilogram (1,499.1 pounds) Raw Total, which also turned out to be a new IPF World Record. The previous record was also in Bonica’s possession, but it instead stood at 671.5 kilograms (1,480.4 pounds).
