Bodybuilding icon Arnold Schwarzenegger took the sport to new heights during his days of competing on stage. In a recent edition of The Daily Pump newsletter, Schwarzenegger shared some tips for beginners getting their start in fitness.

Schwarzenegger first gained attention for his impressive size and proportions in the 1970s and 80s. He earned his maiden Sandow trophy in 1970 and won the show consecutively until 1975. Years later, he reclaimed the title at the 1980 Mr. Olympia.

Following his run in bodybuilding, Schwarzenegger found a passion for acting. He applied the same discipline he learned as a competitor to become an A-lister in Hollywood with several blockbuster films under his belt, including Conan the Barbarian (1982), The Terminator (1984), Commando (1985), and Predator (1987).

Although he moved on from competition decades ago, Schwarzenegger still has his pulse on the sport. After the conclusion of the 2022 Mr. Olympia, he argued that Classic Physique should be the Mr. Olympia. Additionally, ‘The Austrian Oak’ weighed in on former two-time Mr. Olympia champ Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay’s defeat at the contest last month.

He believes Ramy could’ve won again had he presented a similar package to last year. On the bright side, he doesn’t think the damage is beyond repair and encouraged Ramy to make a statement in his comeback.

Schwarzenegger boasts a huge following of 23.2 million followers on Instagram and regularly motivates his fans with workout videos and tips. The 75-year-old shared a killer workout during winter. As of late, he promoted daily walking along with a high-protein diet to stay fit and increase your lifespan.

Arnold Schwarzenegger shares tips for beginners

In a recent edition of The Daily Pump, Arnold Schwarzenegger shared some advice for those just getting into fitness and working out. He stressed the importance of incorporating new habits and staying consistent.

“My advice to beginners is really simple: begin,” he wrote. “And then don’t stop until it is a routine. For a lot of people, that first step is the hardest. So find something, anything, you can do. If you have been completely sedentary, go on a 30 minute walk. If you walk all the time and you have never done any strength training, you don’t need equipment: do 5 pushups, then do 5 squats. If your heart’s beating fast, rest for a minute. Now do 4 pushups, and 4 squats. Rest if you need to. Then do 3 pushups and 3 squats. Then 2 and 2, then 1 and 1. You just did 15 pushups and 15 squats. If it was easy, start at 10 next time.”

“Once you begin, the key is keeping your momentum. That’s why I encourage everyone to set goals they can achieve when they’re just starting out. Train 10 minutes every day for a month. Then make it 15 minutes. Motivation is fleeting, but routine is what carries you on. You need to make this a routine. Do whatever you can do every day for a month, and then build on that.”

Last week, he took notice of social media fitness influencer Joey Swoll, who’s leading the charge in pushing back against toxic gym culture. Schwarzenegger praised Swoll for his movement and plans to partner with him to spread positivity in gyms.

Schwarzenegger was involved in an accident with a cyclist last Sunday. The initial reports deemed him not to be at fault for the incident. However, there is an ongoing investigation. The seven-time Mr. Olympia winner opened up on his battles with some of the most notable names in bodybuilding history. He revealed Sergio Oliva as the toughest contender he faced on stage along with Franco Columbu. Given his experiences working out, Schwarzenegger hopes beginners take his training advice to heart.
