France’s best powerlifters came together in Le Crès from September 20 to 24 to determine champions in each weight class. So, when it came to the women’s raw +84-kilogram weight class, Amélie Mierger put on a show and a performance worthy of a gold medal. She did not come to just win the competition, but came to dominate and even put up the most impressive lift out of any competitor. Amelie did so by bench pressing 165 kilograms (363.8 pounds) for an Unofficial IPF World Record.
Amélie Mierger built up a huge lead after completing her first and second bench press attempts. So much so that she could comfortably go for the unofficial world record on her third attempt without any risk of losing out on her first place. So, after putting on a pair of wrist wraps and a lifting belt, Amelie got stationed on the bench and absolutely crushed her 165-kilogram (363.8-pound) press.
The current +84KG IPF World Record Bench Press is held by Mahailya Reeves, who locked out 164.5 kilograms (362.7 pounds) at the 2022 IPF World Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships. However, Amelie Mierger held the record before Mahailya, and she now wants to reclaim it. To do so officially, she will have to perform the bench press in an IPF competition.
Amelie Mierger enjoyed a very solid day on the competition platform, as she successfully completed all nine of her attempts. She ended up winning her weight class by 102.5 kilograms (226 pounds), making it one of the most dominant displays of the entire 2023 FFForce French Nationals.

Amélie Mierger claimed her fourth French National title, which further improves her incredible resume. She also has three EPF European Champion titles to her name, as well as three bronze medals from IPF World Championships so far. Amelie has managed to achieve all of this in just five years of competing, during which she took part in 23 sanctioned competitions and won 16 of them.
Interestingly, Amelie Mierger also attempted to bench press 165 kilograms (363.8 pounds) at the 2023 IPF World Championships but was unsuccessful. So, having locked it out with ease now at the 2023 FFForce French Nationals, Amelie displayed great improvement. Thus, it seems that it is just a matter of time before she reclaims the IPF World Record.
