Nick Walker is determined to bring nothing but the best this year. With his insane mass and ability to keep sharpening his physique, he is a notable favorite ahead of the 2023 Mr. Olympia. In a recent interview on YouTube, Walker discusses his mentality and career trajectory in the IFBB Pro League.
‘The Mutant’ embodies his namesake with a freakishly large build that has earned him many accolades throughout his Pro career. With a blend of volume, conditioning, and vascularity, Walker managed to register an impressive fourth-place performance at 2020 Chicago Pro. From there, Nick Walker won first at the New York Pro and Arnold Classic in 2021 and then placed in the top five in his Mr. Olympia debut.
Walker continued his hot streak in 2022 but only competed at the Olympia, which saw him take third place in a historically competitive event. In the end, the only two men to place ahead of Walker were 212-turned-Open star Derek Lunsford and the champion Hadi Choopan.
Building up to this year’s Olympia, Nick Walker took second place at the 2023 Arnold Classic. Despite coming up short, he is confident he will defeat the entire lineup including reigning champion Hadi Choopan and runner-up Derek Lunsford. Nick Walker has shown that he only gets better each time he steps on the stage and this year he has improved in every area including slimming down his waist.
“It’s just win win win win,” Nick Walker Talks About His Mindset Headed Into 2023 Olympia
Nick Walker believes this year he is going in as an underdog, allowing him to focus solely on the task at hand which is winning the Sandow trophy. In an interview on YouTube, Walker opens up about his career and his focus five weeks from hitting the stage.
“I got top five right so your first Olympia getting the top five, anyone in the world is going to be like that’s fucking awesome; I was disappointed as fuck,” said Walker.
“I literally went into a rut because of it because I expected higher of myself. Now that I’m a lot better now at handling things and looking back, it’s like dude, you were fifth at your first Olympia, you need to enjoy that shit. That was just never my mindset.”
“It’s just win win win win, even when I was younger playing sports… I was a winner and I always wanted to win. For this Olympia that just passed, you know that off-season was rough, the whole year was rough.”
“My mindset changed more and I’m like, ‘Fuck that I’m winning this motherfucker.’ And then, I end up improving two sports” Nick Walker shared.
As for Nick Walker’s 2023 Olympia ambitions, he had the following to say:
“I’m looking at this year and it’s like, I didn’t have the longest off-season but it was way more productive than last year. Every day since me and Matt started prep, I’m like I’m going to win this motherfucker I don’t care.”
“This isn’t to say I don’t have bad days. Everyone has them. But you can’t let that change what you have planned up here. You just have to be like fuck it, it happens, tomorrow is a new day, I’m winning this motherfucker. You got to maintain that throughout and sometimes it’s hard, it’s difficult.”
“My trajectory, my career. I’m due, this is my time. I’ve moved up two spots last year and I’m going to move up another two and that’s going to be it.”
Whether it’s bringing the illusion of aesthetics, a tighter waist, or bigger quads, “The Mutant” is leaving nothing to chance as he eyes the top prize in the sport. He believes his work ethic inside the gym and his aggression on stage will lead him to his career’s greatest triumph.
Walker will face many challenges on his way to 2023 Mr. Olympia title contention, and while fans and some veterans haven’t backed him to win, Nick Walker has long made a career off of defying the expectations of those around him.
