Having once ruled the stages of bodybuilding, Arnold Schwarzenegger remains dedicated to fitness and longevity. In a recent podcast on Spotify, Schwarzenegger took aim at the supplement industry, where he explained that illegal ingredients are hiding in products.

Bodybuilding demands a deliberate balance of training, nutrition, and supplementation, something Arnold Schwarzenegger understood well during his successful career. Competing in the golden era, Schwarzenegger cut his teeth against icons of the sport such as Olympia winners Frank Zane, Franco Columbu, and Sergio Oliva.

Today, Schwarzenegger admits it’s been difficult to accept his physique as he relished being one of the ‘world’s best-built men.’ Aside from his busy schedule, Schwarzenegger has made it clear that he’s determined to reverse the natural aging process in his spare time.

Schwarzenegger succeeded in winning seven Mr. Olympia titles before calling it a day. However, his tenacity on stage transferred over to his acting career as well as his time as the governor of California. As of late, he remains dedicated to spreading wisdom about fitness in his daily Arnold’s Pump Club newsletter/podcast.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Best Tip for Buying Supplements: “Please Look For 3rd Party Certification”

According to Schwarzenegger, a study found that 89% of supplements analyzed inaccurately listed the ingredients. To ensure the quality of the product. Schwarzenegger says it’s best to purchase brands that have third-party certification.

“This next item really pissed me off. Even though I think many people rely too much on supplements and most are a waste of money. Some of them really are fantastic. But the biggest problem with the supplement industry might be how little you can trust the ingredient labels. A recent study found that 89% of supplements analyzed did not accurately list the ingredients.

And more than 10% of the supplements tested had illegal ingredients hiding in the product. A 2022 study showed that buying supplements from Amazon wasn’t a guarantee of quality either even though Amazon began requiring quality control documentation from supplement sellers in 2020.

It’s not realistic to test the supplements you buy but that doesn’t mean you can’t protect yourself if you’re buying a supplement, please look for third-party certification. That means the brand pays for a reputable lab to verify the accuracy of labels and the safety of the product,” Arnold Schwarzenegger said.

Schwarzenegger Calls for More Coffee

Schwarzenegger cited studies that found more cups of coffee on average lowered the risk of irritable bowel syndrome.

“Let’s talk about my favorite morning beverage. We talk about coffee, and you might even have a cup in arm’s reach as you’re listening to this. If so, you might want to take another sip. Recent research suggests that a higher intake of coffee was associated with a lower risk of irritable bowel syndrome.

Some people believe coffee causes stomach distress but the scientists found that four or more cups of coffee per day was associated with a 19% lower risk while one cup a day was associated with a 7% reduced risk. If you drink decaf, the benefits might be linked to caffeine because the researchers did not see the same benefit for the  non-caffeinated version.”

In addition to supplementation, Schwarzenegger has also taken a keen interest in protein intake. In a previous newsletter, the bodybuilding icon stressed that the quality of the protein source isn’t as important ‘as you’ve been led to believe.’ Schwarzenegger followed up his claim by adding that it’s okay to consume options that aren’t the highest-absorbing.

From the benefits of daily walking to his ‘hierarchy of muscle growth,’ Schwarzenegger doesn’t miss a chance to keep his fans informed on the latest trends in fitness. Despite a busy schedule at the age of 76, Schwarzenegger continues to prove why he’s one of the greatest of all time.
