Laurence Shahlaei, also known as Big Loz, is one of the most beloved figures in the Strongman community. Having always been passionate about this sport, his retirement a few years ago caused a great deal of sadness among fans. However, Laurence is now planning his comeback to Strongman and has already started training. He has also found his strength once again, as he recently managed to set a new Dinnie Stone Carry World Record at the Donald Dinnie Day event.

Donald Dinnie Day took place on August 6th, and it featured some other elite Strongmen and Strongwomen as well. Some of those were Martins Licis, Tom Stoltman, Luke Stoltman, Donna Moore, and Chloe Brennan.

The Dinnie Stones are two iconic boulders with metal rings attached to them. They are meant to be picked up and carried in both hands, but since the two stones are not equal in weight, many struggle to find balance. The smaller stone weighs 144.5 kilograms (318.5 pounds), while the larger stone weighs 188 kilograms (414.5 pounds). They carry the name of Donald Dinnie, as he was the first man to carry them barehanded in 1860.

Since the Stones are stationed in Scotland, Laurence ‘Big Loz’ Shahlaei made sure to follow their tradition and put on a kilt. He then picked up both stones and progressed forward with tiny steps. He ended up dropping the stones at the mark of 22-feet and 4-inches, thus further improving his own World Record of 14-feet and 7-inches.

“It feels amazing to still be breaking records at this stage in my lifting journey” wrote Shahlaei on Instagram.

Big Loz’s World Record should not be mixed up with the one Kevin Faires set at the 2023 Rogue Record Breakers back in March. Kevin carried two Dinnie Stones for a distance of 31-feet and 7-inches, but those stones were replicas. So, Kevin is in possession of the Replica Dinnie Stones World Record, while Big Loz used the original stones.

Laurence ‘Big Loz’ Shahlaei is currently preparing for the 2023 Official Strongman Games, where he will compete in the 40+ Masters age division. This competition will take place on December 1-3, in Charleston Coliseum, West Virginia, and anyone who wins will be crowned the World’s Strongest Masters athlete.

Big Loz has already warmed up for his comeback to the sport, as he won the 2023 Britain’s Strongest Masters competition just a few months ago. So, he is definitely in contention to become the champion at the OSG.

During his Strongman career in the Open division, Laurence Shahlaei accumulated tons of success. He took part in 65 International and National competitions, and came out victorious 11 times. The most notable one is definitely his 2016 Europe’s Strongest Man victory, but his other titles are nothing short of impressive.

During the past few years, Big Loz has dedicated more of his time to coaching, and has become very successful at it. He led Mitchell Hooper to become the 2023 World’s Strongest Man champion and helped him grow into the biggest prospect in Strongman. However, he still loves being out on the competition floor, which is why he is training hard once again and setting new World Records.
