People often say that the human body can do amazing things, and the only limits we have are in our mind. Although many people are reluctant to believe this statement, Sherine Marcelle’s most recent performance suggests that maybe it is true. Sherine took part in the 2023 WRPF Femme Fatale III over the past weekend and walked away with a brand new 263.5-kilogram (580.9-pound) All-Time World Record Raw Squat in the 90-kilogram division.
However, not everything went as she planned, but it did luckily turn out better for her. Following her first squat attempt of 250 kilograms (551.1 pounds), Sherine decided to up the weight to 258.5 kilograms (569.9 pounds) and notch the All-Time World Record. However, the people in charge of loading the barbell made a mistake and added an additional 5 kilograms (11 pounds) to the aforementioned weight.
Sherine Marcelle approached the bar for her second try, unaware that she was about to lift a weight of 263.5 kilograms (580.9 pounds). Although it must have felt heavier than she expected, Sherine knew that she was capable of lifting the weight and grinded it out. Only after Sherine completed her lift, she found out that it was significantly heavier than it should have been. In the aftermath of this lift, she decided to scrap her remaining third attempt.
The previous All-Time World Record Squat was held by Samantha Rice, who lifted 257.5 kilograms (567.7 pounds) at the 2022 USPA Pro Raw Championships. So, Sherine aimed to break the record by a small margin, but instead outperformed it by 6 kilograms (13.2 pounds).
These kinds of barbell misloads can cause serious injuries, but it luckily didn’t cause any for Sherine Marcelle. Many powerlifters know their limits, so even a single pound over what they decided to lift can be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful attempt.
“Many of you who know my resume in this sport know I’ve been chasing this for a while
My final squat attempt which was supposed to be 569lbs was misloaded by 10lbs and by the grace of god I got that bar up, I did not stop fighting.”
After setting the Squat World Record, Sherine Marcelle went on to bench press 130 kilograms (286.6 pounds), which marks her new Competition PR. Her achievements didn’t stop there, as she also claimed a new deadlift Competition PR with a pull of 240 kilograms (529.1 pounds).
Finally, after her results from all three events were added together, Sherine Marcelle’s Total came out to 633.5 kilograms (1,396.6 pounds). With this, Sherine outperformed her previous Competition PR by a massive 41 kilograms (90.4 pounds).
