YouTube sensation Darren Watkins Jr., popularly known as IShowSpeed, made a name for himself in the live-streaming space. In a recent stream, IShowSpeed narrowly managed to escape injury after getting stuck under a barbell while performing bench presses.
IShowSpeed first gained attention for gaming videos and snippets from his extended live streams. Several of his short clips got utilized in reaction videos and memes. He got banned from Twitch for his over-the-top outbursts.
Along with his lifestyle-based content, IShowSpeed explored his passion for music in Aug. 2021. He released many songs and quickly amassed an impressive following on social media platforms. Last year, he infused his vigor for soccer into his music with the releases ‘Ronaldo (Sewey),’ in honor of famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, and ‘World Cup’ for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
As important as regular exercise is, it’s necessary to do it in the proper manner to minimize injury. There have been a ton of hilarious gym fails showcasing people struggling with training sessions. Eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman was left stunned by the form of some gym-goers while reacting to a bunch of gym fails. The legend followed that up with another reaction video displaying more insane feats and mishaps recorded in the training room.
Former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall weighed in on another comedic series of gym fails earlier this month. As a longtime lifter, Hall could relate to the struggles and laughed along the clip.
IShowSpeed barely avoids injury after the barbell crashes down on the bench press
In a recent YouTube live stream, IShowSpeed avoided injury after the barbell came crashing down on him while performing the bench press.
Watkins Jr. was training at his home gym and doing bench presses on the squat rack. He appeared to set the safety pegs lower than the height of his neck. He kicked things off with a warmup set using one plate of 45lbs on each side of the barbell and managed to squeeze out two reps. His feet came off the ground as he lifted, indicating an improper form.
He forgets to take off a plate from the other side of the barbell and adds two more 10-lb plates, resulting in an uneven distribution of the weight. He realized one side felt much heavier and finally adjusted the overall weight to 155 pounds.
“Help! I can’t breathe! Stop, I can’t breathe!”
“Inshallah! I almost died. Oh, my god! I almost died! Oh, my f**king god! No more again. Chat, should we do it again, bro? Holy s**t!”
IShowSpeed got the bar off to start pressing but got stuck under the barbell as it came crashing down onto his chest. Since the safety racks were lower than needed, he struggled to control the weight. Eventually, he slid the bar to one side and managed to get out.
