Early Life
Xochitl Gomez was born on April 29, 2006 in Los Angeles, California, USA to a Mexican father and an LA native mother. Her name is pronounced ‘Soh-Cheel’ and it means flower in Nahuatl, an indigenous Mexican language. She lived in Hollywood for five years before her parents moved to Echo Park. In Caifornia, Xochitl was surrounded by people of Mexican origin and she admits that it helped her stay connected to the Mexican roots.
“All the kids I played with and my babysitter were from Mexico. My parents speak Spanish at home, so I feel like I’ve lived in both worlds and that has shaped who I am as a person,” Xochitl told People Chica in an interview.
Career
Xochitl Gomez started acting as early as five years old through local musicals. She worked in television serials like Gentefied, Raven’s Home and You’re the Worst in subsequent years. In 2019, Xochitl appeared in the 2019 movie Shadow Wolves and won the Young Artist Award for the supporting teen artist for this movie. However, her big break came in the form of the Netflix series The Baby-Sitter’s Club. Xochitl played the role of Dawn Schaffer in the Season 1 of the show.
The 16-year-old actress reached every corner of the world when she was cast as America Chavez in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. While speaking to Complex in an interview, she said that her father was extremely happy with that and even helped her prepare the Spanish dialogues.
“It was really heartwarming to see how excited he got when he realized that I was going to be speaking Spanish in the film. It was one of those bonding moments that I won’t forget because he helped me kind of choose those lines and the intonation and stuff, and ways to make it actually really funny. It’s one of those things that I look back at and I’m like, ‘That is a core memory,” The Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness actress told Complex in an interview.

While she must have gotten some guidance from her co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen on the movie sets, a large part of her preparation through training and diet was already in the books by the time she reached the sets.
While speaking about the process to prepare herself physically for the role in an interview with Complex, Xochitl Gomez said that she started training even before she got the final callback from the producers. She said:
“Well, I did do lots of training when I got my call back. I was like, “Oh my gosh, I might have a chance at doing a test audition.” So, I trained for a month every other day for hours, so that then I could maybe get the chance to do a test, that I could blow their minds and it might have worked. [laughs] Then of course, once I was in England I ran every day, and I did some strengthening exercises. That was fun.”
As a sixteen years old actress, it is not as difficult for Xochitl Gomez to maintain the necessary body composition of her character compared to some of her co-stars that are in their late 30s, 40s and even 50s. An increasingly large number of action film actors, therefore, are opting for MMA training when they have to prepare for their roles. Xochitl Gomez also trained Mixed Martial Arts to prepare for her role in the movie Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. She trained MMA twice a week during her preparation for the role.

A 6 to 7 miles run is a must in The Doctor Strage: Multiverse of Madness actress’s training routine. She dedicates her Wednesdays for the long runs which must help her build the endurance needed for an action star.
Thursday – Kickboxing Training
Just like Mixed Martial Arts training, kickboxing can really help with improving the fighting techniques. Additionally, it can help with improving cardiovascular ability, strength and endurance. When performed with ankle and wrist weights, kickboxing training can also burn a large number of calories. It makes for a perfect cross-training exercise irrespective of the fitness level. Xochitl Gomez’s Thursdays are kept for kickboxing training.
Friday – Full Body Strength Training
Gomez is back in the weight training room on Fridays for full body strength training. She does a number of compound and isolation movements to target all the muscles and improve strength. The 17-year-old typically warms up with a few minutes of warm-up on a rowing machine and a stationary bike. She performs exercises like squats and walking lunges to improve the lower body strength while triceps extensions, cable rows, shoulder press and chest press help improve the upper body strength.
