In the last few years, Ray Williams has been considered the greatest powerlifter in the IPF. However, there seems to be a new contender for that title. In this case, it is Jesus Olivares, who is only 24 years old, but is already excelling in some of Ray’s areas. The two men also share some similarities, as they both excel in the squat event. However, Olivares seems to be more complete in the other two lifts. The greatest argument for this is Jesus Olivares’ recent 410-kilogram (903.9-pound) deadlift from training.
Seeing that this 410-kilogram (903.9-pound) deadlift is the Unofficial IPF World Record in the +120KG weight class, Jesus Olivares recorded it and shared it to his Instagram on October 7th. Ray Williams holds the official record in the over 120-kilogram weight class of 398.5 kilograms (878.5 pounds), having set it at the 2018 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.
Jesus Olivares did not seemingly struggle in unofficially breaking the World Record, as his attempt appeared very fast and energetic. He planted his feet in a conventional stance and grabbed the barbell with a mixed grip. The only piece of equipment Jesus used was the lifting belt. So, this attempt was raw according to powerlifting rules.
It is not clear when Jesus Olivares plans to compete again, although it is clear from his recent PRs that he is ready to break World Records. Apart from this massive deadlift, Jesus also recently scored a 455-kilogram (1,003-pound) raw squat PR.
It is noteworthy that Jesus Olivares has earned 10 victories in the 19 sanctioned powerlifting competitions that he has participated in. He has claimed numerous junior World and National Records in the process of doing so.
Jesus Olivares’ Competition PRs
Squat: 450 kilograms (992 pounds) — (2022 AMP Classic Open Nationals Presented by SBD)
Deadlift: 402.5 kilograms (887.3 pounds) — (2022 AMP Classic Open Nationals Presented by SBD)
Total: 1,110 kilograms (2,447.1 pounds) — (2022 AMP Classic Open Nationals Presented by SBD)
The Total of 1,110 kilograms (2,447.1 pounds) which Jesus Olivares officially scored just a couple of months ago is the third-heaviest in the history of raw powerlifting. Only Daniel Bell (1,127.5-kg / 2,485.7-lb) and Ray Williams (1,112.5-kg / 2,452.6-lb) have managed to accumulate more.

Although the most important thing is that Jesus is beating world records, it is also good to see that he is ecstatic whenever he trains. This mentality will undoubtedly help him achieve ultimate dominance in the sport. While it is evident that this day will come undoubtedly sooner rather than later, the process seems equally enjoyable at the same time.
