Arguably the pound-for-pound strongest man on earth right now, Nicolas Cambi manages to turn every event he participates in into an unforgettable experience. This is especially applicable to the 2022 U105KG America’s Strongest Man, which just concluded. Cambi won this competition last year and brought his best physical shape in the hopes of defending his title. Obviously, no one managed to beat him, so Nicolas Cambi claimed the title of 2022 America’s Strongest Man in the 105-kilogram weight class.

Nicolas Cambi had to perform in multiple events to defend his title. These included a Car Deadlift, Power Stairs, Yoke Carry, Sandbag Press & Carry Medley. However, Cambi’s greatest display was in the Heavy Dumbbell Press. He had four attempts, all of which were successful, where the goal was to build up to a one rep max.

Cambi chose a 285-pound (129.3-kilogram) dumbbell for his final attempt, which is now the new U105KG World Record. He demolished the previous mark, as Cole Booth had the record of 95.3 kilograms (210 pounds) at the 2018 TX Record Breakers.

“And here it is! 285 lbs Circus Dumbbell Press for a new World Record for the 231/105kg class. 4/4 for records broken out of records attempted. Belt clean for the win!”

Athletes with incredible shoulder and overhead press strength often struggle in the Heavy Dumbbell event. Mainly due to its technical nature, just strength and power won’t be enough to complete this event. While the main portion of the lift is the overhead press itself, it is easy to neglect the effort needed to lift the implement from the floor to the shoulder. Nicolas Cambi displayed his lifting IQ exactly in this portion of the lift, as he literally utilized his lifting belt in a way that helped him waste less energy. Cambi called this technique the Belt Clean, which is certainly an innovative way to get the dumbbell to the shoulder.

His seven years of Strongman have taught him a lot. He has also competed in some of the most prestigious competitions and accomplished a lot.

Judging from the list of his World Records, it is obvious that Nicolas Cambi’s greatest prowess is his overhead pressing strength. However, he is also seemingly a Strongman without any weaknesses. So, Cambi could easily be one of the most complete athletes in the World currently. The next step for Cambi is unclear, but he is certainly taking a few days to celebrate his new record and victory.
