Jonathan Cayco, popularly known as “Mr. Bench,” is coming off an unsuccessful run at the 2022 IPF World Championships. Cayco hoped to defend his title from last year, but came just short of doing so. However, he did not let the defeat hold him back for long as he got back to the gym in full force. He displayed this in his recent Instagram post, where Cayco shared a new squat PR of 574 pounds (260 kilograms).

Cayco first gained popularity for himself as a powerlifter with unparalleled strength. He posed a serious threat in all 14 sanctione competitions he took part in. Cayco has managed to win nine of them and has smashed multiple World Records as well. Cayco has been at the top of the 93-kilogram weight class for a very long time. He was expected to defend his title at the World’s, but could not manage to do so.

Cayco did not necessarily miss the mark at the World’s. The competition in the division was intense and Cayco got edged out by Chance Mitchell, who won his first IPF World Championships title and set two World Records for deadlift and total in the process. He still got a spot on the podium and took home a bronze medal.

Despite not getting the first-place finish, Jonathan was clearly in fine form as he set a new IPF Bench Press World Record of 525.8 pounds (238.5 kilograms), which is 1.1 pounds (0.5 kilograms) heavier than the old record he previously set at the 2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Jonathan Cayco Hits 8 Rep PR Squat with 574 pounds (260 kilograms)

In a recent post made on Instagram, Cayco shared a clip of him setting a new squat PR of 574 pounds (260 kilograms).

“Squat: 574 lb / 260 kg x 8 PR 🚨

Let’s Fight 🔥🙏

‘People have been asking if I’m back, and I haven’t really had an answer… but now yeah, I’m thinking I’m back.'”

After missing out on the gold at 2022 IPF World’s, Jonathan Cayco’s return to training has been very impressive. Last month, he scored a 573.2-pound (260-kg) raw squat five rep PR in training. He did not stop at that and recorded another new raw deadlift six-rep PR of 651 pounds (295 kilograms). He pushed himself further on the deadlift and earned another PR, lifting 723.1 pounds (328 kilograms) for his new best of two reps.
