Age is just a number for powerlifter Brian Winslow, who continues to defy expectations by setting new records. While competing at the 2023 British Drug-Free Powerlifting Championships on March 18, Winslow cleared a 171-pound deadlift on his second attempt, marking a new British and world record in the 60 kilograms (132 pounds) category for male athletes ages 85-89.

Winslow, a British native, discovered his passion for powerlifting and working out at a young age. It didn’t take long for Winslow to realize he had a knack for lifting weights, especially when it came to testing his deadlift strength. The Derbyshire powerlifter found success at a number of meets throughout his long-lasting career.

Winslow started with a 165-pound pull before moving on to heavier weights. Moments after shattering national and world records at his latest event with a 171-pound deadlift, Brian tested his resolve with 172 pounds, though was unsuccessful in his attempt. Nevertheless, Brian continues to excel at the competition and often inspires others with his extraordinary strength.

“I’ll Keep Carrying on For as Long as the Body Allows”: Brian Winslow Not Slowing Down at 86

Winslow, whose feats of strength have gone viral online, shared that powerlifting and exercise have attributed to his family’s happiness and well-being. According to Winslow, the deadlift event at the 2023 British Drug-Free Powerlifting Championships is the most exciting but also the most taxing.

Regarding the deadlift record-breaking experience, Winslow had the following to say:

“I think it’s the best event but it is the most taxing,” Winslow said while talking about deadlifting. “It’s always great to get a record or two. I was exhausted straight after but okay.”

“Weightlifting is a huge part of my life, alongside my children and grandchildren. I’ll keep carrying on for as along as the body allows.”

In fitness, the pursuit of excellence and the drive to push through boundaries serve as powerful motivators for anyone regardless of age. Whether it’s powerlifting or bodybuilding, people go to great lengths to keep their competitive spirits thriving.

The last time an octogenarian made headlines fans were astounded by Japan’s Toshisuke Kanazawa. The 86-year-old bodybuilder continues to defy the odds by breaking records. He recently became the oldest living bodybuilder to compete in Japan. Overall, he’s happy to participate and hopes to inspire the next generations of bodybuilders with his longevity.

At 84 years old, ‘Powerlifting Grandma’ Carrie Reese has turned heads with her strength as well, having shown off an impressive 194-pound deadlift. However, the powerlifting world will always have a soft spot in their heart for Edith Murway-Traina, who is the oldest competitive powerlifting phenom at 100.
