2023 TYR Wodapalooza CrossFit Individual & Teams Results — Ricky Garard & Paige Powers Claim Gold

Ricky Garard and Paige Powers claimed the top spots in men and women divisions.

The 2023 TYR Wodapalooza, which was held from January 12-15 under the sunny skies of Miami, was a thrilling event that brought together the best CrossFit athletes from around the world. A variety of challenges were featured in the competition, including weightlifting, gymnastics, and endurance events, which tested both the athletes’ physical and mental capabilities.

The prize pool for the competition was $500,000, which added an extra level of motivation for the athletes to perform at their best. The competition was fierce, with many of the top CrossFit athletes competing for the top spot. In the end, it was a close race, with the top athletes separated by only a few points.

Individual Divisions Recap

Note: A couple of workouts consisted of two parts, A & B. So, each one of those parts counted as a separate event in terms of points, despite being performed at once. For example, the winner of Part A would get 100 points. However, the winner of Part B would also get 100 points. This principle also counted for athletes who finished in any other place as well.

Workout One — Rings & Squats

Ricky Garard and Emma Cary had the perfect start to the competition having earned maximum points on workout one. Ricky Garard faced no competition in the men’s division, but Emma Carry beat Elisa Fuliano by just one second.

After a relatively bad performance in event one, Roman Khrennikov came back to win the second workout of the 2023 Wodapalooza.

Ricky Garard followed in a close second place. Emma Carry got yet another event victory at the start of the competition, but this time with 10 seconds separating her from second-place Emily Rolfe.

Patrick Vellner and Roman Khrennikov won Part A and Part B of the “Start Fast & Finish Strong” workout, showing why they are some of the fittest men alive.

On the other hand, Emily Rolfe and Dani Speegle came out victorious in the women’s division.

Known for his strength and impeccable technique, Guilherme Malheiros put up the heaviest Clean & Jerk, and won part A of the fourth event.

Cole Greashaber excelled in the second part of this event, holding a handstand for 17 seconds longer than anyone else.

Cece Cronin turned out to be the greatest weightlifter in the women’s division, lifting an incredible 256 pounds. On the other hand, Rebecca Fuselier had the greatest balance and won Part B of the fourth event.

Roman Khrennikov recovered from his poor start with another victory in the fifth workout of the 2023 Wodapalooza, but Ricky Garard placed second, not giving Roman any time to breathe.

Paige Powers was extremely dominant in the fifth event of the 2023 Wodapalooza, finishing more than half a minute ahead of her closest rival, Brittany Weiss.

Roman Khrennikov was the event winner once again in Part A of the sixth workout, but Ricky Garard finished right behind him. However, Dallin Pepper won Part B of the workout.

Paige Powers was the sole winner of part A in the women’s division, but Dani Speegle made the most out of this event, coming second in Part A, and winning Part B.

Workout One — Start Fast, Finish Faster

Complete for time, in relay style:

  • Athlete 3 – 42 Chest-to-Bar Pull-Ups / 420-foot Shuttle Run

  • Athlete 1 – 42 Handstand Push-Ups / 240 meter Row
  • Athlete 2 – 42 Pistols / 240 meter Row
  • Athlete 3 – 42 Chest-to-Bar Pull-Ups / 240 meter Row

Time Cap: 13 Minutes

As the 2023 Wodapalooza’s Team division set the pace, it saw multiple placings change within seconds. Despite the efforts from two more teams, ‘King B.K & Friends’ came out on top with a time of 09:55.06. In addition to rowing fast, they also did not waste too much energy on other exercises.

The Women’s Teams were nothing short of spectacular either, as ‘The Girls’ won the event, but two more teams finished in the following five seconds.

The second event of the 2023 Wodapalooza saw completely different teams in the top five of part A and part B.

The winners of part A, collecting 100 points, were ‘Team Training Program’, as they proved to be the best runners amongst the others. On the other hand, ‘Team Boyz’ got 100 points in Part B of the event, as they mastered the swimming abilities.

Invictus Chicks were the winners of Part A of the women’s division, while All American Girls won the second part of the event finishing two minutes ahead of their closest rivals.

As for the third workout, it required considerable coordination between the team members, and ‘Team GOWOD’ in the men’s division and ‘Team BPN’ in the women’s division were the groups that handled it the best. Synchronization is always a complex factor, which often has to come naturally.

Team Panchik was the greatest men’s team in this relatively long event, due to their composure alongside incredible fitness. Seeing that the rope climbs were one of the most significant portions of the workout, Team Panchik managed to complete them in the most effective way possible.

‘Team BPN’ was the greatest amongst women, having finished everything set before them in more than 10 seconds less than anyone else.

Workout Five — 3,2,1, Lift Off

  • Athlete 3 – 1 RM Shoulder-to-Overhead

Coming out on top amongst the men in the penultimate workout of the Team’s division were ‘Invictus Tiny Dancers’, having perfectly shared the roles amongst their members in regard to who should perform the squats or the overhead press. They accumulated a total of 1,155 pounds, significantly more than anyone else.

Multiple teams fought for first place in the Women’s division, but “The Girls” won 100 points after totalling 761 pounds across the three separate exercises. ‘Team BPN’ got second place with a total of 755 pounds, with ‘Misfits with Lady Bits’ finishing in third with just one pound less.

The ‘Good Dudes’ and ‘A.K.A Humble Killers’ came out on top of their respective men’s and women’s divisions in part A of the final event. Both teams breezed through the synchronized portion of the event, which gave them a very strong base going into the box jump overs, dumbbell bench press, and the handstand walk.

Although there was only a few minutes of rest scheduled after part A, other teams managed to control their fatigue in a better way going into the second part. So, ‘The Boyz’ and ‘The Dottirs Ft. Mob’ managed to win part B of the final event, despite the fact that their closest rivals were mere seconds away.
