The 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman competition took place on September 30th in Doncaster, England. It was a highly anticipated show, since Britain is arguably the richest nation in regard to Strongwoman athletes. So, Giants Live gathered 13 amazing Strongwomen and tasked them with performing five events in one day. This resulted in a huge and hard-fought victory for Rebecca Roberts.

The 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman competition proved to be yet another showdown between Rebecca Roberts and Lucy Underdwon. The two women have faced each other multiple times, each one being highly unpredictable. However, this is now the second time this year that Rebecca beat Lucy by just one point, having done the same at the 2023 UK’s Strongest Woman competition.

Event One — Log Lift

The first event of the 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman competition was the Log Lift for reps. So, the athletes faced a 90-kilogram (198.4-pound) wooden Log which they had to lift off the floor and press overhead for as many reps as possible.

This event was extremely pleasant for one athlete, Andrea Thompson, as she was the former World Record holder. So, she had no trouble locking out a rep more than what the next best result was. In the end, the winning number of reps for Andrea was eight.

It turned out that both Rebecca Roberts and Lucy Underdown’s Log Lifting abilities were equal, as they locked out seven repetitions each. So, they tied for second and got the same number of points.

  • Andrea Thompson — 8 reps
  • Rebecca Roberts — 7 reps
  • Lucy Underdown — 7 reps
  • Donna Moore — 5 reps
  • Emmajane Smith — 4 reps
  • Katie Smith — 3 reps
  • Kate Connolly — 3 reps
  • Laura Baxter — 2 reps
  • Naomi Hadley — 1 reps
  • Rhianon Lovelace — 1 reps
  • Claire Myler — 0 reps
  • Chloe Brennan — 0 reps
  • Ayshea Ullah — 0 reps

Event Two — Deadlift

Just like the first test, the second event in the 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman competition challenged the athletes to complete as many deadlift reps as possible. It was also not a usual deadlift, since the barbell was changed from a normal one to an Axle bar. The weight of the deadlift was 220 kilograms (485 pounds).

Obviously, no variation could have stopped the current Deadlift World Record holder from taking the maximum points in the second event of the day. However, Lucy Underdown still had to put in a lot of effort to win the event, as she still had to perform 11 repetitions.

Rebecca Roberts finished in second place with 10 repetitions, which was not surprising due to the feat of strength she shared a week before the competition. Knowing that this would be one of the events, Rebecca trained hard and even set an Unofficial Axle Deadlift World Record in training.

  • Lucy Underdown — 11 reps
  • Rebecca Roberts — 10 reps
  • Andrea Thompson — 8 reps
  • Donna Moore — 7 reps
  • Naomi Hadley — 6 reps
  • Katie Smith — 6 reps
  • Claire Myler — 5 reps
  • Rhianon Lovelace — 4 reps
  • Laura Baxter — 3 reps
  • Ayshea Ullah — 2 reps
  • Emmajane Smith — 1 reps
  • Chloe Brennan — 0 reps
  • Kate Connolly — 0 reps

Event Three — Sandbag Steeplechase

For the third event of the 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman competition, the competitors found themselves in front of two 100-kilogram (220.5-pound) Sandbags. They first had to lift both sandbags over a beam, which was raised to approximately chest height. Then, they had to cross on the other side of the beam, pick up the sandbags one by one, carry them for a few meters, and finally load them onto the platform.

Laura Baxter came out of nowhere to beat all of the other 12 competitors, lifting both sandbags over the beam and then loading those same bags onto their respective platforms in just 37.96 seconds.

Lucy Underdown was not far behind, finishing in a time of 38.46 seconds and once again getting the better of Rebecca Roberts, who finished in third. So, Lucy Underdown was in the overall lead at this point in the competition.

  • Laura Baxter — 4 in 37.96 s
  • Lucy Underdown — 4 in 38.46 s
  • Rebecca Roberts — 4 in 40.76 s
  • Donna Moore — 4 in 52.19 s
  • Naomi Hadley — 4 in 52.35 s
  • Claire Myler — 3 in 31.32 s
  • Rhianon Lovelace — 3 in 31.86 s
  • Andrea Thompson — 3 in 43.81 s
  • Emmajane Smith — 2 in 24.58 s
  • Ayshea Ullah — 2 in 31.46 s
  • Chloe Brennan — 2 in 34.65 s
  • Katie Smith — 2 in 35.88 s
  • Kate Connolly — 2 in 43.35 s

Event Four — Super Yoke

For the fourth event of the competition, Giants Live decided to put in a 260-kilogram (573.2-pound) Super Yoke. It had to be carried for a distance of 20 meters in as short a time as possible.

Rebecca Roberts needed a big performance in this event in order to catch up to Lucy Underdown, and her run of 9.65 seconds was enough. She took the maximum points and gave herself a shot at the title in the final event.

Andrea Thompson was just 0.02 seconds slower than Rebecca, but even that small margin meant that she was second and earned one point less.

Lucy Underdwon finished an additional three seconds behind Andrea, which was enough for her to wrap up the top three athletes for the penultimate event of the competition.

  • Rebecca Roberts — 9.65 s
  • Andrea Thompson — 9.67 s
  • Lucy Underdown — 12.66 s
  • Chloe Brennan — 13.78 s
  • Naomi Hadley — 13.86 s
  • Ayshea Ullah — 15.05 s
  • Laura Baxter — 15.62 s
  • Donna Moore — 19.17 s
  • Emmajane Smith — 19.82 s
  • Katie Smith — 19.98 s
  • Kate Connolly — 23.30 s
  • Rhianon Lovelace — 43.42 s
  • Claire Myler — 16.18 m

Event Five — Power Stairs

Although the traditional last event of Strongman and Strongwoman competitions is the Atlas Stones. We have recently witnessed a comeback of the Power Stair, which also wrapped up the 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman. In this event, the competitors had to carry four implements up a flight of three stairs each. The weight of the implements in order that they were lifted was:

First Implement: 120 kilograms (264.6 pounds)
Second Implement: 130 kilograms (286.6 pounds)
Third Implement: 130 kilograms (286.6 pounds)
Fourth Implement: 150 kilograms (330.7 pounds)

With Rebecca Roberts and Lucy Underdown going into this event tied on points overall, the woman who placed higher would claim the title. So, performing the event at the same time in a face-to-face format, the duel proved to be fantastic. Rebecca narrowly won the event with a time of 29.78 seconds, thus becoming the 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman.

Lucy Underdown placed second in the final event with a time of 33.76 seconds, thus also settling for silver medal overall.

  • Rebecca Roberts — 12 in 29.78 s
  • Lucy Underdown — 12 in 33.76 s
  • Claire Myler — 12 in 41.76 s
  • Donna Moore — 12 in 45.57 s
  • Naomi Hadley — 12 in 52.94 s
  • Andrea Thompson — 12 in 53.84 s
  • Katie Smith — 11 in 61.13 s
  • Chloe Brennan — 9 in 54.66 s
  • Laura Baxter — 10 in 26.70 s
  • Emmajane Smith — 9 in 42.19 s
  • Ayshea Ullah — 11 in 74.54 s
  • Kate Connolly — 8 in 47.96 s
  • Rhianon Lovelace — Did not attempt

One member of Rebecca Roberts’ family has encountered severe sickness lately, which has undoubtedly affected her both physically and mentally. So, the win at the 2023 Britain’s Strongest Woman definitely meant a lot to her, but it also proved how incredible she is. Rebecca still has a few more goals for this year and is looking like a real threat for the World’s Strongest Woman title.
